Small plane crashes in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A small plane crashed at the Jamestown Airport just after 10 a.m. Monday, officials confirmed.

Officials did not immediately have information on the number of occupants on board or the severity of any injuries. A medical helicopter was on scene.

The crash happened on the airport's main runway. The scene was still active as of 11:45 a.m., and the airport remains closed.

Photos from witnesses on scene showed thick, black smoke billowing into the air. The Falconer Fire Department posted photos of the wreckage.

The Chautauqua County/Jamestown Airport does not currently have commercial flights.

More information is expected at a press conference Monday afternoon. WIVB News 4 has a crew en route to the scene and will provide updates when available.

This was the second small plane crash at the airport in as many years. Last June, two men were killed when their plane crashed shortly after takeoff, landing in a wooded area within the airport grounds.
