A British tourist missing in Thailand went off the grid just before reaching the airport, his family say.

Simon Robinson, a 27-year-old from Skegness, Lincolnshire, was due to fly home from Bangkok on July 26 but never boarded his flight.

He phoned his girlfriend earlier that day to say he was coming home, and relative say his phone’s ‘last location’ signal later pinged five minutes away from the airport before going offline.

His distraught family and friends are asking the public for help as there appears to have been no progress since they contacted the local British embassy.

Simon’s sister Sarah, who lives in Barnsley, said it would be uncharacteristic of him to cut off contact with his family or fail to return home.

In a Facebook post, she wrote: I am thankful for everyone’s support and sharing.

‘All anyone can do at the moment is if you are in Bangkok and see him contact the police or ask Simon to call me and if you’re in another country just keeping sharing the picture.’

One of Simon’s friends, Sam Champ, wrote in a separate post earlier this week: ‘He was supposed to board a flight … and he didn’t show up.

‘It was his 27th birthday yesterday and everyone is growing very concerned.’

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has been approached for comment.
