Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir was observed at the Pakistan Embassy in Kabul today. During the ceremony, messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar were read aloud.

“Pakistan’s Head of Mission to Afghanistan, Ambassador Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, addressed the gathering, recalling the profound sacrifices made by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their 77-year struggle for freedom from illegal and brutal Indian occupation.”

“He paid tribute to Kashmiri leadership, especially Shaheed Syed Ali Geelani, highlighting him as an icon of Kashmiri steadfastness. Ambassador Nizamani emphasized that the international community must not allow India to normalize its occupation and suppression of Kashmiris.”

“He reiterated that India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir constitutes a serious violation of international law and numerous UN Security Council resolutions. Ambassador Nizamani reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Kashmiris politically, morally, and diplomatically in their just struggle for the right to self-determination.”

In recent developments, relations between India and Pakistan have remained tense, especially in light of the anniversary of 5th August, marking significant events related to the status of Jammu and Kashmir. This date is remembered differently in both countries, with Pakistan observing it as a day of protest against India’s actions in the region.

The 5th of August holds particular significance as it marks the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution by the Indian government in 2019, which revoked the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir. This move by India triggered strong reactions from Pakistan, leading to heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Despite occasional diplomatic efforts and talks, the Kashmir issue remains a longstanding point of contention between India and Pakistan. Both countries have engaged in sporadic military skirmishes along the Line of Control (LoC), complicating efforts for peaceful resolution and exacerbating regional instability.
