Newcastle United have had a bid rejected by Crystal Palace for Liverpool target Marc Guehi and the two clubs are not close to agreeing on a deal for the defender’s potential move to the Magpies yet, according to Sky Sports News.

 

Guehi has emerged as Newcastle’s top centre-back target as they seek to add a top-quality defender following the arrival of Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer earlier in the window.

 

The Magpies are in talks with Palace to secure a deal for the signature of the 24-year-old England international this summer.

 

 

A host of sides are keen on Guehi, who further enhanced his reputation at Euro 2024.

 

Liverpool have been heavily linked with him, but Newcastle are the only side at the table at the moment.

 

There are suggestions that the two clubs are close to agreeing on a fee and the deal could be confirmed by the weekend.

 

However, those suggestions are claimed to be premature at this stage of the negotiations.

 

 

Crystal Palace have already rejected an offer from Newcastle and the Magpies are expected to return with an improved bid.

 

Newcastle do have a clear run at Guehi as despite interest from other clubs, they are the only ones trying to sign him at the moment.

 

 

However, a deal is not close between the two clubs and there is still work to be done for Newcastle.

 

It has been suggested that the negotiations could pick up pace if Newcastle match Crystal Palace’s £60m valuation with their second bid.
