16-year-old sensation, Mikey Moore, emerged from the Tottenham academy towards the latter stages of the 2023/24 season. An impressive pre-season for the forward mean that Moore is now expected to become a permanent first-team feature this year.

Postecoglou could help Moore achieve a break-out season

Spurs fans were immediately alerted to the name Mikey Moore after the teenager was named on the bench for Tottenham’s trip to Chelsea, days later making his first-team debut against Man City and becoming Spurs’ youngest-ever Premier League player (Tottenham Hotspur).

Moore defied the usual steps of an impressive academy player, who typically progress through the youth ranks to U18s level, then U21s, before eventually being handed a first-team chance.

Postecoglou scrapped the handbook for Moore. The winger, who can also play centrally, netted fourteen goals in twelve U18 games for Spurs in 2023/24 and was hauled straight into first-team training, where he has remained ever since (TransferMarkt).

Moore is set to sign a professional deal with Spurs in a week

Pre-season handed Mikey a real shot at forcing his way into the thinking of Ange Postecoglou ahead of the upcoming season. It’s safe to say the youngster has done just that, finding the back of the net against Hearts and Vissel Kobe as well as grabbing a late assist for Dane Scarlett against QPR.

Football Insider have confirmed in their latest report that Tottenham are now set to permanently move Moore into the first team for 2024/25, a campaign that could bring plenty of game time for Mikey with the club being involved in the Europa League, as well as the usual domestic competitions.

Moore’s promotion is also expected to come with a contract announcement in the next week when Mikey turns 17.

The contract that Football Insider are referring to was initially reported by The Athletic, who announced back in June 2023 that Moore had agreed on a professional deal which would come to fruition when he turned 17.

Spurs reportedly fended off interest from various clubs but ensured the promising star would remain at Tottenham for the foreseeable future.

Moore has been one of the stars of Spurs’ pre-season campaign, which is an outstanding feat considering the forward is only sixteen and amassed three senior minutes.

There were obviously murmurs of Moore being lured elsewhere, but as The Athletic reported, Moore signed a professional deal long ago, speaking to the trust that Tottenham had in the youngster.
