Dr. Azza Halim, an aesthetics specialist based in Boca Raton, Florida, shared the skincare tips in an interview with The U.S. Sun.

“Aloe vera is commonly referred to as a ‘miracle plant’ due to its
soothing and healing properties, attributed to its rich composition of
vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and other bioactive
compounds, especially for skin conditions,” she said.

“There are several underrated uses for aloe vera for skin, hair, and gut wellness.”

She raved about aloe vera’s hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties, which are not limited to facial and body skin.

“Aloe vera may help reduce dandruff and soothe an itchy scalp as it also helps balance the scalp’s pH to reduce irritation,” she explained.

On the skin, she added that aloe vera gel can help reduce acne breakouts, as well as heal wounds and minor cuts.

While those with allergies and botanical sensitivities should exercise caution before applying aloe vera, Halim explained that a quick patch test could eliminate concerns over skin compatibility.

On top of general moisturizing benefits, aloe vera is also effective as a hair and anti-aging treatment.

“It also can be used as a natural conditioner to moisturize and
strengthen hair, reduce frizz, add shine, and improve texture,” she said.

“A common use has been for sunburn relief as it is soothing and
cooling. Some use it for moisturizing fine lines and wrinkles.”

“[It has] anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory
properties along with its various nutrients that include vitamins of
C, E, B12, minerals, magnesium and zinc.

“As a skin brightener, it works via exfoliation with its natural enzymes,
hydrating and moisturizing as well, plus its vitamin C content along
with suppressing melanin production are all necessary for
brightening and pigmentation issues.”

The plant in liquid form also boasts a litany of health benefits when ingested.

“Taking aloe vera juice in moderation can help soothe the digestive
tract, relieve constipation, and improve overall digestive health,” Halim said.

“It can also help reduce symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, and I myself actually use organic aloe to mix with apple cider vinegar unfiltered, raw/organic whenever I have gastrointestinal discomfort or heartburn,” she said.

“I have found it helpful. Obviously, not every remedy or DIY is for
every individual; therefore, this is not medical advice but just an
opinion from my personal use.”

Halim added that the purer the aloe vera, the better.

“When using aloe vera, especially for internal use, it’s important to ensure it is pure and free from added chemicals,” she said.

“If one can get the actual aloe leaf and extract the aloe gel directly themselves then that is best and purest form.

“Always consult a healthcare professional before using it
as a treatment, especially for serious conditions.”
