Trump created major 'problem' when he focused attack on foe's wife: Georgia GOP insider

Former President Donald Trump's decision to reignite his long-running feud with Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp — and even take a shot at Kemp's wife in the process — is not playing well in a state that he absolutely needs to win this fall.

Right-wing talk show host Erick Erickson, who knows the ins and outs of Georgia Republican politics, argued on Monday that he's already seeing signs that Trump's attacks on Brian and Marty Kemp were hurting him with a key bloc of Peach State voters.

"If you want to understand the problem Trump created for himself in Georgia, today on the radio, 9 out of 10 callers are women, and they're all mad at him for attacking Brian Kemp's wife," Erickson revealed on Twitter.

Trump has been on a crusade against Kemp ever since the Georgia governor refused to push his false claims about the 2020 election being "stolen" from him.

Trump endorsed a primary challenger against Kemp in the 2022 midterm elections, but the incumbent Georgia governor easily won the contest before going on to once again defeat Democrat Stacey Abrams in the fall.

Multiple Georgia Republicans, including former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, came out to defend Kemp after Trump's latest attacks, and one Georgia Republican even went so far as to say that Trump's tirade against Kemp would cost him the state.
