'I had nothing to do with that': Pelosi grilled by CNN host over Biden exit

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) once again denied any direct involvement in the pressure to force President Joe Biden out of the presidential race in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash on Monday evening.

Pelosi, who also discussed the contest for Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate and the relationship she and Harris have as fellow San Francisco politicians, was reportedly a driving force behind the effort to remove Biden, who sparked fears in the party about his fitness to carry on a campaign and a second term after his disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump.

However, she still refuses to confirm any part of that story.

"You ... sa[id] something that I've heard you say a few times, which is we needed a campaign that we can win," said Bash. "And I do want to ask about President Biden, because you said that you did not put anybody up to pressuring him to step aside?"

"I did not," said Pelosi.

"One of the things I've been wanting to ask you about is, the lawmakers who came out, 1-2-3, are some of the lawmakers who are closest to you," said Bash. "Adam Schiff, Jamie Raskin, Zoe Lofgren, with statements saying that they respectfully thought it was time for the president to step aside. I've had people say to me, and I, just as a longtime observer of you, sort of thought, 'Oh, wow, those are all Pelosi allies.' You had nothing to do with that?"

"I have hundreds of allies in the Congress of the United States," said Pelosi. "I had nothing to do with that. If you ask them, it's almost insulting to them, because they're formidable figures in the Congress of the United States. They make their own judgment."
