Black SUVs at home of Minnesota VP candidate Tim Walz ignites internet speculation

Speculation ignited Monday night — and then was quickly extinguished — after a video shared on social media purportedly showed multiple Black SUVs leaving the home of vice presidential hopeful and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Around 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time Monday, Dan Green posted on the social media site X that he was near Walz's home and that a "bunch of black SUV's just rolled out."

"I am not a betting man but the vibe seemed very 'this guy just got picked as VP,' he wrote. "Feel free to interpret how you wish!"

Green later added he has "no idea what’s going on" and admitted he was only parked there for five to 10 minutes.

The tweet was enough to spark social media users, particularly after a similar scene was captured with Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, who was seen departing his Cincinnati home in a motorcade before being named former President Donald Trump's running mate. In that instance, a local Fox television station reported that the extra security outside Vance's homextra security outside Vance's home was approved by Gov. Mike DeWine, the ATF and State Highway Patrol.

Monday's post of a motorcade at Walz's home led some to declare "this will ensure a landslide defeat," and others to proclaim Walz would be "a monster good pick."

Still others pointed out Walz has a fundraiser planned Monday night, and some to try to debunk the claims, saying the vehicles had state plates and were likely for in-state purposes.

As rumors swirled, a spokesperson for Walz poured cold water on internet sleuths, telling Washington Post reporter Tyler Pager this indeed was Walz's Minnesota detail, and the vehicles belonged to the state Department of Public Safety.

"Governor Walz has been driven by the Minnesota State Patrol’s executive protection team since he’s been in office," the spokesperson said.
