GROVE CITY, Ohio (WCMH) -- Two Grove City police officers who were escorting a convicted sex offender from a hospital when he escaped have been suspended.

Grove City Police Officers Brian Strawser and Carrie Rose received five-day suspensions for "performance failures" while escorting Quinntel Bagley on June 13.

Strawser and Rose were taking Bagley, 38, from Fairfield Medical Center when Bagley broke free and ran from the officers. Bagley has remained on the run ever since.

According to the department, the internal affairs investigation found Strawser and Rose didn't use "trained escort techniques" while moving Bagley.

"This violation was significant, which prompted the recommended discipline to start at a suspension level," the department wrote in a news release. A spokesperson for Grove City police said the suspension is a loss of the officers' leave and not "free time off."

Neither officer has a history of failing to properly escort people in custody, the department noted.

Bagley was last seen last week when he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend around 6 a.m. Friday from the west side of Columbus. The woman, who had been kidnapped by Bagley once before, was able to escape without injury. He was last seen near Eureka Avenue and West Broad Street.
