Buffalo man sentenced to prison after pleading guilty in 3 separate cases

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Buffalo man was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 1 1/3 to four years in prison after he pleaded guilty to various offenses in three separate cases, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced.

Officials said around 7:48 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2024, officers responded to Dupont Avenue for a report of a stolen truck, which was taken from the victim's driveway after a key was left inside the vehicle.

An officer saw 20-year-old Kahill Reeves enter the stolen vehicle, which was parked in a driveway at a residence on the 1400 block of Sheridan Drive. Reeves then drove the truck in reverse at a high rate of speed, hitting the occupied police patrol vehicle, officials said.

According to officials, Reeves then recklessly drove through a front lawn and traveled onto Sheridan Drive in an attempt to evade the police. Reeves, who was driving without a valid driver's license, was later taken into custody by New York State Police.

Officials said around 6 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2023, Reeves stole the victim's property, which was inside a locker at a gym on Sheridan Drive in the Town of Amherst. Reeves was then found in possession of the victim's backpack.

Just two hours later, Reeves stole another victim's property that was inside a locker at a gym on McKinley Parkway in the Town of Hamburg, officials said. Reeves was then found in possession of the victim's credit cards, wallet and keys.

In May 2024, Reeves pleaded guilty to the following offenses in the three cases:

  • one count of third-degree grand larceny
  • one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • one count of third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle
  • one count of petit larceny
