Palestinian officials confirm 40 deaths, return of 80 bodies from Israel
Palestinian sources reported the death of 40 individuals in Gaza, with Israel returning the bodies of at least 80 Palestinians through the mediation of the International Red Cross.
Hamas officials stated that among the casualties were five police officers from Gaza killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that at least 71 people have been wounded due to Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Gaza’s Hamas-run media office stated on Tuesday, August 6, that Israel has handed over 80 Palestinian bodies to the Red Cross for return to Gaza.
According to the Palestinian Information Center affiliated with Hamas, Israeli forces had previously “stolen” these bodies from cemeteries in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Yamin Abu Suleiman, head of emergency services in Khan Yunis, stated that the Israeli army had provided no information on whether these bodies were removed from graves or if they were Palestinian prisoners killed.
Palestinian authorities have reportedly buried these bodies in a cemetery in the southern city of Khan Yunis.
The Gaza media office also noted that since the start of the conflict, Israeli forces have “stolen” 2,000 Palestinian bodies after destroying dozens of cemeteries.
Over the past ten months, at least 39,550 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis have been killed in intense clashes in Gaza.
