Aldi launches wine pouches cheaper than M&S – they hold TWO bottles and are perfect for picnics

ALDI has launched wine pouches that hold TWO bottles and are perfect for picnics.

And they’re cheaper than the Marks and Spencer alternative, coming it at just over £6 a bottle.

Aldi’s Specially Selected Sauvignon Blanc Colombard and Specially Selected Cotéaux De Beziers Rosé are both available in 1.5l pouches.

The lightweight pouches are perfect for sharing with friends over a picnic, with no need to pack a corkscrew.

The sauvignon blanc is priced at £12.99 and has notes of grass, herbs and grapefruit.

The rosé is priced at just £12.49 with notes of juicy raspberry, cherry and watermelon.

At Marks and Spencer a 1.5l  pouch of La Dame En Rosé will set you back £13.

Sales of boxed and pouched wine have seen a boost in sales this summer.

Expert Helena Nicklin said the wine quality and choice you can find in cardboard and pouches is way better than it used to be, thanks to greatly improved technology.

On top of that it is often cheaper than the bottle equivalent to buy bagged, and the plonk is so much better for the environment than the glass versions.

The best supermarket box wines

Our expert Helena Nicklin gives her verdict on the best boxes wines on the aisles

M&S Coteaux Varois En Provence Rosé

“Hailing from the lesser-known Coteaux Varois part of Provence, this is your classic, premium pink with very subtle melon and peach flavours.”

£18, 1.5l , rating 4/5

M&S Classics No. 29 Argentinian Malbec

“Proving that pouring from a packet doesn’t mean decreased quality, this is a properly punchy drop in a pouch.”

£15.50, 1.5l , rating 3/5

Lidl Primitivo Puglia Maestro de Pigo

“This one is more elegant than some of the other reds, and works really well when sipped with red meat.”

£22.99, 3l , rating 5/5

Tesco Porta 6 Lisboa Bag-in-Box Red Wine

“Porta 6 make fabulously complex blended wines and this red plonk packs a very decent punch.”

£21.25, 2.25l, rating 4/5

Asda Refined & Elegant Shiraz

“This is definitely a food wine – and it will love a bit of grilled or roast lamb.”

£14.95, 2.25l , rating 3/5

Sainsbury’s Vina Sol

“From the box, it doesn’t quite sing as well as it does from the bottle, but that light fruitiness is still there.”

£20, 2.25l , rating 4/5

Aldi Amarillo Sauvignon Blanc

“It’s extremely gluggable with its dry, simple pear and melon notes.”

£13.99, 2.25l , rating 2/5

Asda Refined & Elegant Soave

“There’s nothing at all offensive about it and, well chilled, it’s more than drinkable – just not very memorable.”

£14.95, 2.25l, rating 2/5

Aldi’s wine collection has received plaudits for both quality and price.

Drinks expert Helena Nicklin raved about its £14.99 Veuve Monsigny  Brut NV, which she described as “the vino that got even posh shoppers buying their wine at Aldi in the first place.”

Aldi shoppers have also flocked to the wine aisle to pick up the supermarket’s £12.49 dupe of cult favourite Whispering Angel.

And fans have also raced to get their hands on the supermarket’s new Jo Malone dupe that leaves homes smelling fabulous.
