UK weather: More rain to come, warns Met Office as 32C highs crash to end – putting ANOTHER dampener on summer holidays

BRITS are bracing for more rain this week as highs of 32C come crashing to an end – putting another dampener on the summer holidays.

The Met Office forecast “blustery” and “heavy” downpours after issuing a yellow warning for rain yesterday.

Today showers continue across the UK

Despite it being August, it won’t quite feel like the summer we hoped for.

Today most areas will experience cooler conditions, with temperatures in the high teens to low 20s.

This evening, showers will continue, especially in Scotland and Northern Ireland, along with western parts of England and Wales.

As night falls, expect heavier, more persistent rain in western Scotland, accompanied by blustery winds.

The southeast will enjoy drier and clearer conditions, leading to a more comfortable night with temperatures dropping into the low teens.

Wales and western England will experience hit-and-miss showers, with occasional “heavier more persistent” bursts in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Following the rain, many areas can expect sunny spells, interspersed with some clouds.

The Met Office warned: “In Scotland there’ll be some blustery winds in association with this as well towards the southeast of the UK.”

As the week progresses, more wet weather is expected, with several fronts pushing in from the west on Thursday and Friday.

This will bring rain to most areas, particularly heavy in the northwest, and a persistent breeze will contribute to the cooler feel.

Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan stated that while this week may feel cooler, there could still be “occasional warm or hot spells” in August.

However, there’s “no strong signal” for prolonged high temperatures across the UK.

East and southeast England already experienced “almost double” the expected rainfall in July, adding to the mixed weather picture this summer.

This week's Met Office forecast in full

Today:

Rain continues to move eastwards but weakening as it does, and clearing the far east by late this afternoon.

Fresher but brighter conditions following with a scattering of showers.

Wednesday to Friday

Bright spells and showers for many on Wednesday.

A band of cloud and rain then moves eastwards on Thursday, likely clearing to sunshine and showers on Friday.

Weekend:

Remaining showery into the weekend and windy throughout.

Meanwhile, the Met Office issued a yellow warning for heavy rain this week, meaning motorists should stay more alert when driving.

But luckily drivers have found a hack that makes driving in the rain less dangerous and only costs a fiver.

Elsewhere, some savvy Brits are using the rain to their advantage.

Catherine Lofthouse, from Loughborough, has saved herself £100s with one of the most cheapskate hacks we’ve seen yet – drying her clothes in the rain.
