Colombo Weather Report For India Vs Sri Lanka 2024 3rd ODI: Will Rain Interrupt Third And Final Match Of Series

Colombo Weather On Wednesday (August 7): Weather is expected to remain largely clear but there are chances of thunderstorms throughout the day in the third and final ODI match between India and Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium.

Rohit Sharma’s Team India will take on Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI match of the three-game series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday (August 7). The Indians are currently trailing 1-0 in the series after the first match ended in a tie and the Lankans won the second ODI by 32 runs on Sunday.

While the T20I matches last month in Kandy were heavily affected by rain, the ODI series hasn’t faced the brunt of weather in the capital city of Sri Lanka in Colombo so far. However, all of that can change on Wednesday with largely cloudy skies expected on match day with chances of thunderstorms throughout the day as well.

According to weather prediction for Wednesday, the temperature will be around 31 degrees Celsius when the third ODI gets underway with about 63 per cent cloud cover in the afternoon. The humidity will be high at around 76 per cent and there is about 40 per cent chance of rain on Wednesday afternoon around toss time of 2pm IST.

By evening when the second innings of the match gets underway, the temperature will drop to around 28 degrees with ‘mostly cloudy skies with thunderstorm in parts of the area’ predicted. The cloud cover is expected to be around 50 per cent with 83 per cent humidity and chances of rain rising to around 43 per cent.

Meanwhile, if the match between India and Sri Lanka ends in another draw, it is expected that there will be provision for a ‘Super Over’. The on-field umpires for the first ODI on Friday failed to enforce the revised ICC conditions which are enforceable since December 2023.

“If the teams’ scores are equal after both innings have been completed (if applicable under DLS), then a Super Over shall be played. If the Super Over is a tie, then unless exceptional circumstances arise subsequent Super Overs shall be played until there is a winner. Should it not be possible to play or to complete the Super Overs needed to determine a winner, the match shall be tied,” the ICC conditions state.

The third T20I between India and Sri Lanka in Kandy had also ended in a tie and the Indians went on to win the match via ‘Super Over’.
