Manchester United had an incredibly mixed campaign last season, with us finishing in a lowly eighth position in the league, but also beating local rivals Manchester City to win the FA Cup.

Andre Onana has reflected on the criticism the team, and he personally, received but acknowledges this is normal for a club of United’s size.

Ahead of the season ahead, Onana is full of confidence and is looking to what United can achieve.

Being a player for Manchester United, when you don’t win, it’s fair to receive criticism because it’s part of the job. We’re here for it and me, coming here as the best goalkeeper in the world, it’s normal they were tough on me, because they expect a lot from me. But, at the same time, they also gave me a lot of love. You just have to balance that and sometimes the critics are good, because you have to look back at what you did that wasn’t good, so for me I take it positively.

As the best club in the country, the perspective is always high. It’s to win everything, fight for every single game and be more consistent. We already showed in past games we can beat anyone, so we’re going to fight to win everything.

Its important for us, we know what we represent, we represent a huge badge. It’s not easy playing for United, because the expectation is always higher. I don’t think it was good enough last season. I came from playing the Champions League final. The FA Cup is important, but not enough for Manchester United.

The targets have to be really high and we will go for it this season. We’re working very hard and we are really positive. I’m really excited about the new signings and with the way my teammates are working hard every day, I’m very positive.
