Recently, Iran’s Foreign Minister announced that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold an extraordinary session at the request of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation announced that the session will be held at the ministerial level in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday, August 7th.

The session aims to discuss the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, in Tehran.

Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader and one of the senior figures of Hamas, was assassinated at 1:37 AM Iran time on July 31st, 2024, along with his personal bodyguard in Tehran, the capital of Iran, in an attack attributed to Israel.

According to the statement of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, this session will be held against the backdrop of ongoing warfare and Israel’s continued attacks on Palestinian soil, especially in Gaza.

It is noteworthy that this session coincides with the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed and 91,000 Palestinians injured so far.

The escalation of tension in the Middle East, highlighted by Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination and ongoing Gaza conflicts, reflects a precarious regional landscape. The urgency of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s meeting underscores regional instability and external interventions.
