MLB news roundup

Happy Tuesday Athletics Nation! Hope everyone’s week is going swimmingly.

We got a couple of positive updates regarding a pair of Oakland’s premier players on Monday afternoon, one on each side of the ball:

Miller’s injury was never really thought to be serious considering it was a broken bone on his non-throwing hand. After last year’s elbow scare everyone who cared was relived that it wasn’t serious so a quick stint on the IL for a broken bone in your hand is just gravy for A’s fans. Miller went on the IL back on July 26th and as a reliever shouldn’t need much (if any) rehab time

Stud prospect Jacob Wilson on the other hand is predictably taking a bit longer in his recovery from his own injury. Originally called up on July 19th for his Major League debut, Wilson singled in his first and only at-bat as an Oakland Athletic before pulling up lame rounding third base with that hammy strain. At the time it felt like the club was prepared to let Wilson ride as the everyday shortstop but that injury threw a wrench in those plans. Since then fellow shortstop Darell Hernáiz has been activated off of the IL but hasn’t yet made a start at the position yet, instead getting some run at the hot corner.

When Wilson returns he’s probably going to be handed that starting shortstop job again but it may be a while before he returns to the big league lineup. Hamstrings can be tricky and take a long time to heal if you get a bad one and Wilson didnt look especially comfortable when his injury occurred. We’re all hoping that fans can see some more of him this year but if he’s not healing as fast as hoped then the club could very well end his season before he gets a chance to get back on the field. We’re not quite there yet but there is only 48 games left in the season, so who knows? Fingers crossed!
