Tuesday links!

Good morning, foLLks, and happy Tuesday!

In Mariners news:

  • Top prospect Colt Emerson got the call to Everett, and should be making his High-A debut very soon. Lefty CJ Widger (son of Mariners legend Chris Widger) and righty Gabriel Sosa will also join the AquaSox.
  • Speaking of minor league moves, there were a boatload of transactions yesterday as the 2024 draft picks were assigned to their teams for the stretch run.

Around the league:

  • Congrats to Ty France on his first home run as a Cincinnati Red! This one was no cheapie, either.
  • With Mike Trout once again done for the year thanks to meniscus issues, Jay Jaffe at FanGraphs looks at a new parallel for the future Hall of Famer’s career - one that Mariners fans should be familiar with.
  • Also at FanGraphs, Kyle Kishimoto writes about the AL West race that is suddenly pretty open - and the Rangers’ walk-off win over Houston last night has only compounded that.
  • The Dodgers designated Cavan Biggio for assignment. Acquired from the Blue Jays back in June, Biggio put up just an 88 wRC+ over 30 games and 88 plate appearances while bringing negative value on defense. With a record of strong plate discipline, however, it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see him get another shot somewhere else.
  • The Marlins have designated Nick Gordon - half-brother of Dee - for assignment.

Connor’s picks:

  • Happy 25th anniversary of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense releasing in theaters! For my money, this was Toni Collette’s best role - though I must confess I still haven’t seen Hereditary.
  • Pretty sure this guy was exiled from the colony after this.
