EastEnders fans in bits as they spot worrying nod to show’s history in Linda Carter scene
EASTENDERS fans were left in bits after they spotted a worrying nod to the show’s history.
In recent scenes, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) has been back on the booze after previously suffering from an addiction problem.
Linda Carter has once again returned to the booze[/caption] In the soap, Sharon’s mother Angie Watts suffered from alcoholism[/caption] Fans noticed that history was repeating itself once again[/caption] The current landlady also attempted to hide her drinking problem[/caption]The landlady just couldn’t help herself but turn back to drink as she struggles to cope with murdering Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) after she stabbed him with a meat thermometer.
She only tried to help her friend Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), who was strangled by her former love interest on Christmas Day.
The murder was covered up by the other four members of ‘The Six’ which included Suki (Balvinder Sopal), Denise (Diane Parish), and Kathy (Gillian Taylforth).
However, it was Stacey (Lacey Turner) that managed to frame Dean (Matt Di Angelo) as she hid the murder weapon in his flat.
But in a recent episode, as Linda poured herself some whisky from the upstairs living area in the Queen Vic, fans could not help but notice a striking resemblance.
Sharon also spotted it, and expressed her worry for Linda because of the history with her own adoptive mother in EastEnders.
Angie Watts (Anita Dobson) had a history with alcohol abuse herself, and she died off-screen from cirrhosis of the liver in 2002.
As Linda reached for the bottle away from her son Johnny (Charlie Suff), fans remembered one scene from the 1980’s.
Angie was in the exact same position at the iconic pub, where she reached for a glass of vodka behind the back of her husband – Den Watts.
BBC soap devotees couldn’t help but recognise the direct parallels between Linda and Angie as they took to social media.
One fan posted direct side-by-side comparison scenes of Linda and Angie pouring themselves quiet drinks.
The fan wrote: “‘I’m worried sick about her, Kathy. I’m worried she’s gonna end up like mum.’ I fear it’s happening, Sharon .”
Another clip from the same episode was then posted alongside a close up image of Linda’s own glass.
In the clip, Den entered the room and poured Angie a tumbler of whisky, but she declined after insisting she was ‘on the wagon’.
The loyal viewer notices that the glasses of the alcoholic liquor were left in exactly the same position in the pub.
They noted: “Den also being the one to pour the whiskey in 1987… “wat” briefly visible on the bottle as Linda pours whiskey for herself; the tumbler sitting in the same place den leaves it … interesting!”
Fans were in utter disbelief as they cottoned onto the clever scene writing.
One fan exclaimed: “OMG I DIDN’T NOTICE THAT.”
As a second excitedly added: “IM GOING TO HAVE A BREAKDOWN!”
Linda Carter's biggest EastEnders storylines
Linda arrived on the Square on Boxing Day in 2013, along with her husband Mick (Danny Dyer) and has been a hit with soap fans ever since.
Her first storylines revolved around the fact that she struggled to come to terms that her son Johnny is gay
In a storyline that had long-lasting repercussions, she was then raped by Mick’s brother Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo).
She fell pregnant shortly after and then was left devastated emotionally when she gave birth to a premature baby after falling down the stairs.
Things soon got worse for Linda after she discovered that her husband Mick kissed their daughter-in-law Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), who was married to their veteran son Lee (Danny Hatchard).
One of her more memorable storylines was when she was accused of perverting the course of justice. This was after Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) is shot and she was falsely accused of attempted murder.
Over the years she has suffered from a variety of illnesses and disorders which include bulimia, alcoholism, and a secret battle with cervical cancer. After she gave birth to her youngest son Ollie (Harry Farr), she also had to deal with his autism diagnosis.
Although she and Mick seemed to be the perfect couple, the pair split up for a short time after she had an affair with Max Branning (Jake Wood). This lead to another pregnancy.
However, the pair finally got divorced after Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) set her eyes on Mick. She wanted the landlord all to herself and she lured Linda rival back into alcoholism to drive a wedge between them.
After this led to Mick’s apparent death at sea, she struggled to adjust to life without her ex-husband and the true love of her life. This was just after the pair decided to have another go at their relationship.
Recently, Linda was the person who was at the very centre during ‘The Six’ storyline. She tried to save her best friend Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) when she was being strangled by Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters). When she killed him with a meat thermometer, the group framed her rapist Dead Wicks after he returned to the square. Since then, she has struggled to cope.
