8/6/2024: Cooler, gloomy, rainy at times

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:

Much cooler today, though it will be rather gloomy as a passing front gets hung up along the Atlantic coast just to our south and east.

Steadiest rain from this morning has moved out and/or fizzled. There will be some dry time, perhaps even a few breaks of sun around lunchtime. But with winds out of the north, we struggle to warm all that much - highs in the 70's.

Then, another round of steady rain moves in for the late afternoon, evening, and overnight. We don't anticipate storms or severe weather.

Tomorrow is better, though not perfect. South of Albany, clouds and perhaps a few sprinkles could linger. Meanwhile, to the north, expect more sun and seasonably cool weather with highs again in the 70's.

Most of Thursday is spectacular, with a comfortable and sunny morning and early afternoon. More clouds gather in the late afternoon, though, and heavy rain could arrive at night ahead of tropical moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Debby.

While we won't see anything close to the historic levels of rain they're currently dealing with down in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, a couple inches could fall locally over the course of Thursday night, Friday ,and Saturday morning. Flooding may be a concern in some spots. We'll keep a close eye on it.

Scattered showers are possible later in the day on Saturday, and into Sunday and Monday as well.
