Makuri Lounge is a minimalist lounge chair designed by Michael Anastassiades for KOYORI, launched during this year’s 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen. This new addition to the KOYORI collection is aimed at providing a versatile seating option that fits seamlessly into any home. Anastassiades explains that the goal was to create a piece that is both iconic and universally appealing. The design process focused on developing a unique typology within the collection, prioritizing comfort and inviting aesthetics. The Makuri Lounge Chair features a minimalist design crafted from a blend of plywood and solid wood. Its plywood seat and backrest bring a playful and lightweight element to the chair, while meticulous attention to detail ensures a high level of craftsmanship.

Discussions with the manufacturer led to refined joinery, removing the beam under the seat to enhance the chair’s simplicity and airiness. Sustainability was a key consideration in the design and manufacturing process. The chair was designed with minimal components, making it durable yet lightweight and easy to move. This focus on sustainability ensures the chair is both practical and environmentally friendly. The Makuri collection also includes an ottoman that complements the lounge chair. This ottoman can serve as a footrest or as an independent stool, offering additional functionality and versatility.
