Fans of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, won’t give up on obtaining a weapon Nintendo clearly does not want them to have: the unbreakable, never-needs-charging Master Sword.

Though Link can acquire the Master Sword legitimately in the game, and it is unbreakable, that one will still lose power and need a recharge. Not the MacGuffin from the game’s opening prologue.

That sword, officially called MsgNotFound in the game’s database is the ne plus ultra of swords in Tears of the Kingdom. Glitchers and other obsessives had it in their hands last May, shortly after the game’s launch. Then Nintendo patched out the bug that gave it to them a week later.

This weekend, YouTuber El Duende 05 found a new glitch to get it back, and it is even more complicated — if not also dangerous to your save file — than the first. The video itself is one hour long — although some sequences are sped up, so the whole process likely takes longer. Props to YouTuber El Duende, he keeps the video tight and instruction focused, but this is a tough mountain to climb.

Zelda’s community is buzzing about it, both that a new glitch was found, as well as the eye-watering sequence of inputs, saves, loads, and other actions some of which are very precisely timed, to make it all work.

There is a written guide to it if El Duende 05’s video and narrative is too hard to follow, visually. But even then you better be well versed in glitch jargon. This is not for Zelda casuals — except, maybe, to admire. It’s both for the bizarre visuals this odyssey of glitches creates, plus the system of trials-and-errors that it must have taken to do something this precise.

The sad truth is Nintendo will probably wipe this all out in a future update. Developers did so with the last one, discovered May 18, 2023, removed by patch May 25, 2023. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s last patch was in August 2023.
