New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin reportedly asked Planned Parenthood to edit his 2022 consumer alert attacking crisis pregnancy centers before it was officially released, according to a Wall Street Journal op-ed.

The information was obtained through a public records request, which uncovered emails between Platkin and Planned Parenthood. According to the Wall Street Journal, Platkin, a Democrat, asked the abortion giant to “preview and edit” his draft of a consumer alert that warned state residents that crisis pregnancy centers “seek to prevent people from accessing reproductive health care.”

The interaction constituted a conflict of interest, especially as Platkin’s consumer alert directed pregnant mothers to Planned Parenthood’s website.

Pro-abortion advocates have begun to use similar “consumer-fraud” arguments to attack crisis pregnancy centers in recent years, often with Democrat politicians claiming that crisis pregnancy centers pretend to offer abortion services or misinform women about their pregnancies in order to trick them into choosing the life of their babies.

In November, Platkin singled out a crisis pregnancy nonprofit called First Choice, attempting to launch an investigation into possible violations of state laws. His investigation, which First Choice challenged in court, also centers around the claim that the nonprofit is intentionally misrepresenting its services.

However, First Choice’s website states that it does not offer or refer women for abortions. According to the Wall Street Journal, First Choice also states in conversations with its clients that it does not provide abortions.

“Mr. Platkin’s campaign does nothing to help women,” the Wall Street Journal reported. “Instead, it makes it more difficult for pregnancy centers to do their work, which in turn limits their ability to support women … seeking alternatives to abortion. If the attorney general is pro-choice, why is he working so hard to limit options for women?”
