Kyle Shanahan Takes Note From Patriots With Brandon Aiyuk Trade Rumors

Brandon Aiyuk seems to be on his way out of the 49ers organization and could join the New England Patriots, but Kyle Shanahan didn't betray any dysfunction Tuesday.

A bombshell report from NBC Sports Bay Area on Monday revealed that New England and the Cleveland Browns worked with San Francisco on a framework for an Aiyuk deal. The sides would send Kendrick Bourne and Amari Cooper, respectively.

Aiyuk has been holding in from Niners training camp in hopes of landing a lucrative contract extension. Shanahan and general manager John Lynch continued to express optimism for a new deal throughout the offseason, and the 49ers head coach kept that line after Tuesday's practice.

"I'm not going to get into specifics with offers or trades. A lot (of news) was out yesterday but the situation we're in with Brandon, nothing has changed," Shanahan told reporters, per Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group.

Shanahan's message to reporters was similar to Jerod Mayo's when the Patriots head coach did not dive into details about the Aiyuk trade rumors and chose to delegate any questions to executive Eliot Wolf.

During his hold in, Aiyuk reportedly has been on his best behavior in the organization. The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly are involved in trade discussions, and the decision ultimately will fall on the star wide receiver's hands. San Francisco seems optimistic that Aiyuk will return, but fan bases from the rumored suitors like the Patriots continue to hold out hope that he'll choose them.
