Decreasing air quality likely around the PNW Wednesday

Western Oregon and southwest Washington's air quality will likely decrease Wednesday as western wildfires continue to burn.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Western Oregon and southwest Washington's air quality will likely decrease Wednesday as western wildfires continue to burn.

Portland area air quality will likely worsen throughout the day Wednesday. Northern winds will help move wildfire smoke from Washington into the Willamette Valley. Not only will hazy skies be seen in the higher elevations of the atmosphere, but also near the surface. The smell of smoke is unlikely but is possible from some around the region.

Much of the state of Oregon has felt the impacts of wildfire smoke over the past month. Moderate air quality will likely move its way into the the I-5 corridor and even as far west as the coast. Those who are sensitive to wildfire smoke may find it difficult to spend time outdoors. Air purifiers and staying indoors during reduced air quality will be beneficial to sensitive individuals Wednesday and likely Thursday.
