NEW YORK (PIX11) -- All three major airports in New York City and New Jersey have issued ground stops in preparation for incoming thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

LaGuardia Airport issued the ground stop at 2:10 p.m., followed by John F. Kennedy Airport and Newark Airport at 2:15 p.m.

Current delay times:

  • Newark Airport grounded until 6:30 p.m.
  • JFK Airport grounded until 6:30 p.m.
  • LaGuardia Airport grounded until 6:30 p.m.

However, ground delays are likely to last into the overnight hours, officials said.

New York City officials have also issued flash flood and travel advisories for Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected to drench the city starting Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning and severe thunderstorm warning for the Bronx and Manhattan through 7:45 p.m.

"Forecasted weather conditions may cause flight disruptions at JFK Airport. Please check with your airline to determine the status of your flight," representatives of JFK airport wrote on X.

Before the ground stop, delays had reached up to four hours at JFK and around two hours at LaGuardia and Newark, according to the FAA.
