Redditor Flaneurandthere shared the haircare tips in a post.

They explained that they preferred to wash their hair once a week, twice maximum when they truly needed it.

“I’m a huge summer person. Mainly a beach person,” they said.

For starters, on beach days, they wear hats to protect their skin from UV rays and shield their color-treated hair.

“Yes, it obviously makes it flatter, but once I go in the water, it’s fine,” they said.

At the beach, a quick and easy rinse helps exfoliate their scalp.

“While in the water (this applies to ocean water only), I like to use my hair while under the water and give my scalp a gentle scratch all around,” they said.

“I find it helps like a natural exfoliation in the salt and sand also [it] feels great.”

Post-swim, they explained that products help preserve the life of their color-treated hair.

“After I swim, I get the excess water out, apply a leave-in conditioner or detangling spray, and brush my hair,” they said.

“When I’m done at the beach and go for my last dip, I repeat all of this and also add a volumizing mouse and scrunch it in.”

For an extra boost, a handy trick gave their hair life.

“Sometimes, I’ll also add a texturizing spray if I have somewhere to be after that,” they said.

At the pool, maintenance steps before heading into the water did the trick.

“For the pool, I like to rinse my hair with cool water and do the same thing, but I’m generally less likely to go under the water if I can help it,” they explained.

The chemicals in the pool, they added, could potentially damage their expensive hair color.

To prevent destroying their color job, they avoid the pool as much as possible.

“I avoid it because of the damage it could lead to with my hair having high/low lights/balayage,” they said.

For water in the lakes, they added that they often have no choice but to wash their hair.

“I wash my hair after lakes IF I go under. Not a huge fan of going under in lake water,” they said.
