Oklahoma City Thunder opens back-to-school season with a bang

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma City Thunder are starting off the new school year with back-to-school programs that schools can now register and request bookings for.

Schools are able to register for Thunder school resources which includes Devon SportsLabs, Rumble Rallies and the Rolling Thunder Book Bus.

Devon SportsLabs is an active learning experience created for elementary and middle school students to help them improve their athletic performance and become excited about STEM through the science in sports. Sessions are organized by Thunder Youth Basketball coaches and are incorporated with STEM-based basketball drills.

The Rolling Thunder Book Bus, carrying over 3,000 fiction and non-fiction books yearly, helps to inspire kindergarten through fifth grade students grow a love for reading. The Thunder have given out more than 207,000 free books from the bus since 2009.

Rumble Rallies is another program offered to schools which involves OKC Thunder's beloved mascot, Rumble the bison, coming right to the classroom.

The rallies are created for students starting at pre-k through fourth grade students and includes interactive activities for back-to-school, test prep and living a healthy and active lifestyle.

The Thunder will also be rolling out registration for other school resources in the next several weeks including:

Field Trip Day, a tradition with the Thunder's G League affiliate, Oklahoma City Blue, combines the excitement of NBA basketball with an educational approach on STEM.
