One suspect of Spencer Loop shooting in custody, police say

A man who was wanted in connection with a New Iberia shooting that left an adult and two children injured is now in custody, the New Iberia Police Department announced.

NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) -- A man who was wanted in connection with a New Iberia shooting that left an adult and two children injured is now in custody, the New Iberia Police Department announced.

Davian Batiste, 23, of New Iberia, turned himself in and is being booked into the Iberia Parish Jail, police said Tuesday evening.

Batiste was wanted on seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of hit-and-run driving, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and other charges.

Dartanion Boutte, 29, of Franklin, is still wanted by police.

Boutte is wanted on seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal use of weapons, among other charges.

New Iberia police said in a news release that the shooting was reported just before 5 p.m. Monday, July 29, in the 1100 block of Spencer Loop.

Responding officers found two boys, ages 6 and 12, and an adult who had been shot, police said. The three victims were taken to a Lafayette hospital for treatment of their injuries. Police said the victims were in stable condition.

Police said an altercation occurred at the home between a man and a woman, whom the man had a child with. After the altercation, the man exited the home and got into the passenger seat of a vehicle, police said.
