Rohit Sharma-led Team India will eye a series-levelling win in the third and final ODI match against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday.
The Indian cricket team have not lost a bilateral ODI series to Sri Lanka in the last 27 years. The last time hosts Lanka managed to defeat India in an ODI series was back in 1997 and Rohit Sharma’s side will be keen on avoiding this ignominy when the two sides face off in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at the R. India are currently down 1-0 in the series after losing the 2nd ODI by 32 runs with the first ODI ended in a tie. India had the first ODI won with Shivam Dube getting the scores level but Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka dismissed Dube and last man Arshdeep Singh off the last two balls to tie the contest.
In the second ODI, India had the chase under control with skipper Rohit Sharma getting the side off to a flyer – smashing 64 runs at the top – as India put on 97 for no loss with 241 to win. But Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay turned the contest on it’s head with a six-wicket haul to send the Indian side tumbling.
India were coming into this ODI series after a 3-0 whitewash of the Sri Lankans in the three-match T20I series in Kandy. With Dube struggling to fire, India might be tempted to bring in Riyan Parag into the team for the 3rd ODI. The Assam and Rajasthan Royals batter gives additional spin bowling option to Rohit Sharma in conditions which have been favouring slow bowlers.
