Marin communities mark 41st National Night Out

The gatherings of residents and public safety employees included events in Novato, Point Reyes Station and Marin City.

Fire and law enforcement agencies from across Marin County visited block parties, cookouts and community gatherings Tuesday during the 41st National Night Out.

This event is held on the first Tuesday in August. Residents are encouraged to meet their neighbors as well as officers and firefighters, and to discuss crime and public safety issues affecting their neighborhoods.

An estimated 38 million people in 17,000 communities participated in last year’s National Night Out, according to the organizers. Statewide, 367 California cities planned parties this year.

In Marin, gatherings included a community party outside the Novato police station, a barbecue dinner at the county fire station in Point Reyes Station, and a block party at Rocky Graham Park in Marin City.
