Dubbed the “Oscars of Tourism”, the World Travel Awards has been running since 1993, with winners selected by a system of both votes and verified travel professionals.

This year, Hotel Barcelo Isla Canela was named the winner in the all-inclusive category.

Located in Huelva in southwestern Spain, the Barcelo hotel is popular with models, influencers and celebrities alike.

There are 349 rooms at the four-star hotel as well as plenty of other features, including an outdoor pool, padel and tennis courts, a golf course and a spa.

The hotel also has a new gym that’s equipped with the latest technology and a heated indoor pool.

Personal treatments like facials, body treatments, peelings and wraps can also be booked at the resort.

Winning in the all-inclusive category, it comes as no surprise to find that the hotel is renowned for its buffet restaurant, which serves a range of regional dishes

Located next to the pool, there’s also the Arrozante restaurant that dishes up the “best local gastronomy”.

There’s also a Lounge Bar where guests can order cocktails and other alcoholic drinks.

Other features include a kids’ club where younger guests can be kept occupied by fun sports and leisure activities.

Outside of the award-winning resort, there are some amazing beaches in Huelva, including Playa de Isla Canela.

The Spanish resort backs onto Playa de Isla Canela, making it completely accessible for guests.

Sun Online Travel have found double rooms at the hotel from £77 per room, based on two people sharing a room.

The hotel has been praised by holidaymakers on TripAdvisor, with a 4.5/5 star rating from thousands of reviews.

One person wrote: “An amazing hotel overall, the grounds were very clean and well kept.”

Someone else added: “A really high quality resort. Beautifully laid out and maintained. Excellent pool areas with more than enough sun loungers provided for guests.

Another said: “The hotel is set in lovely grounds and has a great seafront position.”

Hotel Barcelo Isla Canela is an hour’s drive from Faro International Airport where direct flights operate from the UK.

Direct flights operate from UK cities like London, Durham, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Glasgow, with return fares for as little as £30 in September.

OTHER LUXURY HOTELS

Another luxurious hotel in Turkey where Brit holidaymakers can really unwind is the TUI Sensatori Barut Fethiye.

TUI’s Sensatori hotels are five-star resorts that offer what they describe as “premium, all-inclusive experiences”.

Some of its best features include a 24-hour wine and cheese bar and a Lake House Suite, which has its very own “Press for Champagne” button.

What is it like to stay at a Barcelo?

Earlier this year, digital travel reporter Hope Brotherton stayed at the Barcelo Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, which only opened to holidaymakers last October.

She wrote: “The sprawling resort, with 720 rooms that can accommodate up to 2,000 guests, is set across two large resort complexes, with the Royal level offering an extra air of exclusivity with a private restaurant, adults-only bar and infinity pool.

“As well as that incredible infinity pool and a main pool — 180 metres long — there was ample chance to enjoy a dip from the terrace of my swim-up room with direct access to a wonderful meandering pool.

“While it was a little cold for a swim in February, my friend and I did dip in the water and pose for photos.

“Inside, the decor was calm and luxurious, with neutral colours, a king-size bed and comfy sofa overlooking the terrace.

“The large dressing room and separate toilet and shower were also spot on.”
