Rachel Lindsay Reflects on Being 'Weirded Out' After Saying Yes to Ex Bryan Abasolo's Proposal in 2017 on 'The Bachelorette'

Rachel Lindsay is reflecting on The Bachelorette.

The 39-year-old reality TV alum spoke about her 2017 engagement to now ex Bryan Abasolo on the Getting Grilled podcast.

“I was very quiet on the way home. I was weirded out,” she admitted on the episode, adding that she “did not think [she] was getting married” before starring on the series.

“I was scared,” she admitted.

“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, now I have to tell my parents that I got engaged,’ because when I left to go do The Bachelor[ette], I was like, ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going to fall for any of these men,’ and I did, so I was so terrified to tell them.”

Over time, she and her now-ex were able to bond over their shared interests.

“After that first night, I was like, there’s potential here, but I still was like, ‘There’s no way I’m gonna marry this person.’ And even when you get engaged at the end, it’s the scariest day when the cameras shut down,” she said.

“But you have this ring on your finger, and there’s this man, and for the first time, you ride in the car together, you’re going to the same hotel room together. It’s like, this is the beginning of your new life.”

They tied the knot in Mexico in August 2019, and were married for nearly five years when he filed for divorce in January 2024, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.

He also asked the court for $16,000 per month in spousal support, and was awarded two monthly payments totaling $13,257 by a judge.

Last week, he filed another set of court documents telling a judge that she referred to him as a “leech” after she electronically transferred the funds over to him, via Page Six.

“From day one, I have been committed to working cooperatively with Rachel and her professionals to amicably resolve this case,” he wrote in the filing. “But Rachel continues to obstruct the process while spinning false narrative about her ‘cooperation’ to the court. She continues to instigate confrontation, just as she did prior to my filing for divorce.”

He also said he was “emotionally and psychologically” beaten down.
