Steve Martin responds to calls for him to play Walz on 'SNL'

Comedian and actor Steve Martin responded to calls Tuesday for him to join "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) depicting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), after Walz was tapped as Vice President Harris’s running mate.

“I just learned that Tim Walz wants to go on the road with Marty Short,” Martin said on Threads.

Harris and Walz were officially certified Tuesday to top the Democratic ticket in November against former President Trump. The decision to elevate Walz follows a whirlwind couple of weeks for the Democratic Party, after President Biden dropped out of the race last month and endorsed the vice president to run instead.

Pointing out similar features between Martin and the now-VP nominee, many people online have urged the SNL alum to play the Minnesota governor on the show.

Martin’s fellow “SNL” alum Maya Rudolph is also reportedly coming back to reprise her role as Harris.

In 2022, Rudolph talked about an experience when she met Harris and her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, at a private dinner. According to the actor, Emhoff was “so excited that there were two Kamalas” at the dinner.
