Harris campaign raises $36M in 24 hours after Walz pick

Kamala Harris's presidential campaign raised $36 million in the 24 hours after Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) was added to the ticket, officials said Wednesday.

Campaign officials touted the haul as one of their best fundraising days of the cycle and a reflection of enthusiasm among Democrats about the vice president's choice of Walz as her running mate.

Harris earlier Tuesday announced she had chosen Walz after a whirlwind two-week vetting process. Harris interviewed Walz, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.). 

The vice president ultimately opted for Walz, largely because of the chemistry the two were able to develop in a short time, but also because of his background and policy record. 

Walz was born in Nebraska, served in the military and worked as a high school teacher before serving in Congress. And as governor he signed legislation intended to protect abortion access, curb gun violence and enshrine voting rights.

Harris and Walz campaigned Tuesday in Philadelphia and will travel this week to Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada and Arizona.

The $36 million fundraising total comes on the heels of a massive month financially for the Harris campaign, which raised more than $200 million in the week after the vice president was elevated to the top of the ticket when President Biden announced he would not seek reelection.
