According to a report in L’Equipe (as relayed by GFFN), Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move for Jonathan David after the striker turned down the chance to join AS Roma.

Roma wanted Jonathan David

The report says that the Serie A club were keen on securing the services of David, who is now in the final year of his contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

However, the 24-year-old has decided to reject the approach from the Giallorossi and wait for a better offer to arrive instead.

It is explained that Lille are ready to offer the Canadian international a new contract but the player has made it clear that he wants to leave the club in search of a new challenge.

Tottenham are still looking at Jonathan David

It is alleged that Tottenham are one of the clubs circling over David as Ange Postecoglou looks to add more firepower to his forward.

This comes amidst reports that the Lilywhites are in talks with Bournemouth over a potential deal for Dominic Solanke (Fabrizio Romano).

It is revealed that Atletico Madrid had also previously shown interest in the Lille star but they have now turned their attention to Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez instead.

Spurs Web Opinion

All indications are that Tottenham are now prioritising a move for Dominic Solanke, with the Lilywhites perhaps identifying David as a fallback option in case a move for the Bournemouth star falls through.

I’m surprised no one else has snapped up David this summer though, but then again maybe the striker is simply keeping his options open.
