Day of outdoor fun coming to Lake Shawnee's Tour Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) - People are being invited to swing by Lake Shawnee this month to enjoy a day filled with fun outdoor activities with friends and family.

Shawnee County Parks and Recreation (SCP+R) and Forge are hosting a Tour Topeka event at Lake Shawnee's Tinman Circle and Shelter House 4 from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 17. Food and activities will be provided for guests who are encouraged to participate in numerous events being held that morning.

• 5K Walk/Run - People can take part in a scenic run or walk around Lake Shawnee starting at 8 a.m. You can sign up for this by clicking here.
• Biking Trail - You'll need to bring your own bike to participate in this ride around the lake.
• Food Vendors - Forward Nutrition, Over the Top Sandwich, Pineapple Dream and Bobby's Food Company.
• Topeka Rowing Association Boathouse Tours - Check out the boathouse and learn about rowing opportunities on the lake.
• Canoeing - Enjoy a ride on the water with some canoeing adventures.
• Mini Disc Golf - Open to all ages.
• Fitness Courses - Free fitness courses are open for beginners and experts alike.
• Gear Swap - Bring your outdoor gear to swap or find new items for future trips.

Sean Zears with SCP+R said participants are encouraged to grab a passport for the day and earn stamps for each completed activity. At the end of the event, you can turn in your passport to win a prize and be eligible to win a grand prize provided by Forge.
