AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it was searching for a suspect in connection with a central Austin mail theft.

APD said the mail theft occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. July 17 at the Villas on Guadalupe apartment complex, located at 2810 Hemphill Park.

According to police, the suspect broke into the apartment’s mail room, forcefully opened the mailboxes, and stole several pieces of mail.

The suspect was described as a White or Hispanic woman in her early to mid-30s with a tattoo on her right shoulder and a “Texas” tattoo on her left inner wrist.

She was last seen wearing glasses, a blue “Texas CASA Distinguished Speakers” t-shirt, denim jeans, white sneakers with black stripes and black socks.

APD said the suspect gave the stolen mail to an accomplice who hid the mail and acted as a “look out.”

Police said the accomplice was a man and a known mail thief. There is already a pending warrant for his arrest, according to police.

APD asked that anyone with information submit their tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-TIPS.

A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
