Everything we know about Taylor Swift's Eras Tour show cancelations in Vienna after foiled terror plot
Taylor Swift and her Eras Tour were supposed to kick off three nights in Vienna, Austria on Thursday, August 8.
It was scheduled to be her penultimate stop on the Europe leg of her mega-popular concert, with just five shows in London remaining before Swift returns to North America, with Eras Tour dates resuming in November in Toronto before it ends with a final show on December 8, 2024.
Now, the Vienna dates are in question following the discovery of a potential terror plot against the concert. Here’s what we know so far about all of this as the story continues to develop:
Austrian officials arrested two in alleged attack plot on the Taylor Swift Eras Tour stop in Vienna
According to NBC, the Austrian federal and state officials arrested two men for their connection to potential attacks on upcoming major events in Vienna. A 19-year-old was one of the men arrested, and officials allegedly found chemical substances during the arrests.
“Both men had become radicalized through the internet, and allegedly had specific and detailed plans on how to carry out an attack,” Austrian officials stated, with the 19-year-old apparently pledging allegiance to terrorist group ISIS.
All three Vienna shows have been canceled
In an abundance of caution, the trio of shows in the Austrian capital have been canceled according to an Instagram post from Barracuda Music, the concert organizers.
This is the latest in a recent run of upsetting events
Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident of threatened or actual violence. Before her first show in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, an American stalker was detained as he tried to enter the concert venue. He was held throughout the duration of her stay in the city.
A Swift-themed dance class in Southport, England was attacked by a man with a knife on July 29, leading to the deaths of three young girls and the hospitalization of several more.
While the events are unrelated, it’s incredibly concerning to see Swift and her fans at the center of violent attacks and plots.
What has Taylor Swift said about the terror plot and the canceled shows?
