Con Edison prepares for potential impacts of Tropical Storm Debby

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- After strong storms battered the tri-state area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, all eyes are now on the potential impacts of Tropical Storm Debby, which could arrive as soon as Friday, according to PIX11 meteorologists.

Con Edison is preparing for possible outages and service problems and will activate 660 outside workers to augment company crews.

If there are outages, the priority will be to restore critical customer facilities, including mass transit, hospitals, police and fire stations, and sewage and water-pumping stations.

After, crews will prioritize repairs to provide power to the largest number of customers. Then, work will be done to restore power to smaller groups and individual customers.

Con Edison is warning members of the public to stay away from downed wires as they may be live.

Con Edison customers can report outages and check service restoration status online or through Con Edison's mobile app. Customers can also contact 1-800-752-6633.
