COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The 19-year-old charged in the death of Alexa Stakely pleaded not guilty to murder charges in Franklin County Common Pleas Court Wednesday.

Gerald Dowling Jr. received a $150,000 cash or surety bond from the judge. If Dowling posts bond, he will be subject to electronic monitoring. No date was set for his next court appearance.

Dowling Jr. was being held on a $10 million bond after a July 25 arraignment hearing in municipal court, after he was arrested the previous day along with two juveniles, who are also charged with murder.

The three suspects are accused of attempting to steal Stakely's vehicle on July 11. Stakely was hit and killed when she stopped the carjackers from driving away with her car and her 6-year-old son sleeping in the backseat. Prosecutors plan to try the two juvenile suspects as adults.
