Turkey Creek under system-wide boil advisory

The Turkey Creek Water System has issued a system-wide boil advisory until further notice, the utility announced Wednesday night.

EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The Turkey Creek Water System has issued a system-wide boil advisory until further notice, the utility announced Wednesday night.

The village of Turkey Creek said in a news release that the boil advisory is because of a loss of water pressure.

According to a social media post by the utility, customers have been without water because the water tower was closed due to high usages during high-heat days and because the water system experienced a loss of power from the grid.

"In a normal power outage situation with a 1/2 to 3/4 full tower we can sustain the water p.s.i. for a short time until we get the generators running and the wells pumping but due to no water in the tower we experienced no pressure as soon as we lost power," the social media post read.

"We understand the difficult situation this may have caused customers, especially with the new school year starting tomorrow," the social media post continued. "Please understand this was out of our hands and due to LDH regulations we will have to issue a system wide boil advisory."

The utility said in the social media post that samples will be collected Thursday for testing, and "hopefully be cleared Friday."
