Steve Martin Was Offered Tim Walz Role On 'SNL,' Explains Why He Turned It Down Already

Steve Martin quickly became a fan favorite to play Tim Walz on Saturday Night Live!

The actor has been tapped by fans to portray the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate, who was just announced as VP Kamala Harris‘ running mate this week.

Not only have fans noticed the close resemblance in looks between Steve and Tim, but so has SNL creator and producer Lorne Michaels, who actually already offered Steve the role!

However, Steve has turned down the chance to have a potential recurring spot on the next season of SNL portraying Tim weekly ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

“I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no,” Steve told the LA Times. “I said, ‘Lorne, I’m not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy.’ I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses.”

Another reason he didn’t want to do it is the time commitment.

“It’s ongoing,” the entertainer said. “It’s not like you do it once and get applause and never do it again. Again, they need a real impressionist to do that. They’re gonna find somebody really, really good. I’d be struggling.”
