Romano claims 26-yo remains Man Utd's 'top priority' despite links with Serie A defender

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.

Recent reports claim the 28-year-old has put his contract negotiations with the Serie A outfit on hold, despite his deal expiring in 2025.

This presents United with a good opportunity to initiate a concrete move for Dumfries who appears to have his heart set on a Premier League move.

But despite the links with the Netherlands international, Fabrizio Romano says Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui remains the top priority target for manager Erik ten Hag.

This is because the Moroccan can also play on the left and he is a player well known by Ten Hag.

However, they will need to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka first before completing a move for Mazraoui, and that is proving to be difficult at the moment.

It looked like the former Crystal Palace man would soon join West Ham United after he agreed personal terms with the club.

But the Hammers have now turned their focus to Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier after failing to agree a fee with the Red Devils.

The Manchester giants want up to £18m for the right-back but the Irons are not willing to offer beyond £10m.

United have been looking to sell Wan-Bissaka this summer as he has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Due to their budgetary constraints, they cannot complete a deal for Mazraoui without first offloading the 26-year-old.

It remains to be seen how INEOS manage to find a solution to this problem over the coming weeks.
