We own the house in an iconic 00s TV show – people think we made millions but the truth is very different

THE WOMAN who owns the house that was featured in Breaking Bad has lifted the lid on how much she got paid for her property being used as a set.

Joanne Quintana was happy to offer up her home in Albuquerque to producers when they came knocking.

But she has protested that her family didn’t get paid as much for the location as fans of the crime drama assume.

In an interview with GeeEntertainment, she shared: “People assume we made millions, millions off the show.

“We were not in the show so we did not get residuals, we do not get compensated. We only got paid the location fee. A one-time fee. In and out. That’s it.”

Joanne did not specify the exact amount she received, but an American film location expert has estimated the payout would have ranged from $12,000 (£9, 454) to $ 1 million (£787, 845) per year.

Breaking Bad garnered a huge fanbase when it started airing in 2008, and racked up 10 million viewers by the season finale in 2013.

The drama followed the story of Walter White, a chemistry teacher turned meth manufacturer.

He was a regular family man until he got diagnosed with an incurable cancer and realised he didn’t have the funds to provide for his kids and pay for his end-of-life care.

The character initially became a drug kingpin to make some cash so his family would have something to live off when he died.

However, things soon got out of hand as power corrupted him, and Walter went from being a sympathetic anti-hero to the villain of his own story.

Joanne has opened up about the negative side effects her family faced as Breaking Bad fans started to recognise their house as the set for Walter White’s home.

During one scene in the drama, Walter throws a pizza at his garage roof in a moment of frustration as he battles with his cancer diagnosis.

The show’s creator had to issue a warning to viewers after they started turning up at Joanne’s home and re-enacting the segment.

Vince Gilligan hit out saying: “It is just not funny. It’s been done before. You are not the first.”
