Several heatwave indices failed to capture severity of extreme weather: Study

Researchers from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University studied various heatwave indices and found that most failed to capture the severity of heatwaves in regions with low humidity. Only the 'lethal heat stress index' proved effective. The India Meteorological Department plans to launch a new composite index to improve heatwave assessment and issue impact-based alerts.
