Cristian Romero is maturing at Tottenham

While there have never been any doubts about Romero’s talent, over the last couple of years, the Tottenham man has seemingly come of age and has a more mature head on his shoulders.

The 26-year-old’s disciplinary record has improved a lot, with part of the reason potentially being the additional leadership responsibilities handed to him by Ange Postecoglou.

Most Spurs fans would likely not swap Romero with any other centre-back in the world and the same can be said of Argentineans, who have seen the defender play a pivotal role in the Albiceleste’s back-to-back Copa America triumphs, as well as the World Cup win in 2022.

Romero says he is not the best in the world

However, the former Juventus man brushed off suggestions that he was already the best in the world, insisting that his only goal is to continue getting better.

Romero told ESPN Argentina (as relayed by TyC Sports): “I’m not the best, I don’t put myself in that analysis.

“It’s nice to be told that, but I try to live day by day, to get up and go to training to keep learning, trying to improve, to value my teammates and take the positives from them.

“I don’t put that title on myself at all, there are too many players. I want to see where my maximum is, that’s my motivation.

“It’s not easy to be a starter for the Argentina national team and play in the best league in the world. I’ve won everything, I’m trying to keep that in my head.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Romero is already among the best in the world and the encouraging fact is that he is still not at his peak yet, with central defenders tending to peak at around 28 to 30 years of age.
