Do tapes still matter at the Emmys? Probably not, but they’re still fun to talk about. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to break down Emmy episode submissions.
With shows producing fewer and fewer episode per season, there’s not much suspense nowadays in terms of series submissions. “Slow Horses” had to submit all six episodes of its third season. And shows like “Fallout,” “The Gilded Age” and “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” just had to exclude two episodes from their respective eight-episode seasons. But did they leave out the “right” episodes?

Many of the acting nominees had very obvious, go-to tapes, like “The Bear’s” Lionel Boyce (“Honeydew”) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“Forks”), “Hacks'” Hannah Einbinder (“Bulletproof”) and “The Morning Show’s” Reese Witherspoon (“Love Island”). “Love Island” is, uh, polarizing, but is that relevant if the acting branch loves your show and your character is the main focus of the hour?
