There is nothing worse than getting sunburned when you’re on a cram-it-all-in city break, so I tend to cover up from head-to-toe in lightweight cool fabrics that waft around my body rather than stick to it.

Step forward the pyjama suit – controversial, yes, but also cool, easy to wear and loved by celebs including SJP, Beyonce and Blake Lively.

And the best thing about a PJ suit is you can take it from day to night in the blink of an eye by adding some strappy heels – so it’s perfect for a hand-luggage-only weekend away.

I have added Uniqlo’s viral crossbody bag (I have it in three colourways already), because it means I won’t be scrabbling around for my passport, plus comfy flip-flops and statement sunnies.

I love a good bargain, and even more so for an occasion, so getting a head-to-toe outfit for an evening out for under £100 is a result.

Taking one staple item and building your outfit around it is a really easy way to create a look.

This dress from Zara can be worn multiple ways, with the flower tie either around your waist, as pictured here, or around your neck – I love a dress that has options.

I’ve let the dress do the talking, especially as it is the most expensive piece of the outfit, keeping all my accessories gold and simple.

These shoes from Primark are a bargain at just £13, and if you’re on the lookout for cheap jewellery, New Look has some great options – like this ring for just £2.99.

This co-ord set from George at Asda is nearly identical to one I picked up from Zara last summer, but at a much more affordable price.

It’s made from a lightweight material, with an embroidered floral pattern that’s timeless.

Here, I’ve styled it with gold heels and a pearl bag (which you’d never guess is from Primark) for an evening look that’s perfect for holiday nights.

However, this co-ord is incredibly versatile and I’ve worn it to summer BBQs, thrown the shorts over a bikini at the beach, and paired the shirt with jeans on cooler days.

It’s truly a piece that gives you great value for your money.

We spend a lot of time at work, but no one wants to spend a lot of money on work outfits.

I’m lucky enough to not have to wear a uniform and have some freedom with what I can wear to the office, which means my workwear is versatile enough for other occasions, too.

Take this bag – it’s big enough to fit my laptop in as well as odd bits I need to pick up from the supermarket on the way home.

Plus, it’s a dupe for Coach’s £495 Brooklyn bag, loved by Bella Hadid

To battle the muggy weather, I’ll be sporting this white poplin skirt from H&M with this lightweight knit from Tu at Sainsbury’s, that also helps with the office’s arctic aircon!

Finished off with silver accessories, like these expensive-looking pumps from George and timeless black sunnies, and I’m good to go.

And I have some cash to spare for my morning coffee – win!

Is supermarket fashion the new high street?

DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:

The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family.

Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a ‘strong growth in clothing’ and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street.

Asda’s clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year.

So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful?

Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it’s good quality too – with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative.

A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.

Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.
